Our journey towards wellness

We are what we put into our bodies. We are also what we put on the things we own and into the rooms we live in.

Anaya has worked from that one idea since 2013. We are a Singapore brand, part of GTCL, and we make two ranges that sound unrelated and are not: Trigona stingless bee honey and propolis for immunity, and non-toxic anti-mould care for leather.

My father was diagnosed with cancer. He died of it.

I won't tell you a product caused that. I don't know, and neither does anyone else. What I can tell you is what it changed. We started turning bottles around and reading the back, on food and on the things we'd been using around the house for years without a thought.

We started late. Almost everybody does. And late is the worst place to start from, because by then you aren't choosing. You're reacting.

"A home should be able to look after the people in it. We make the things that go into your body and into your rooms safe enough that you don't have to think about them."

Our first product came from remote parts of the Philippines, where beekeepers showed us a stingless bee small enough that most people swat at it. Those bees were dying on the farms they pollinated, sprayed by farmers who had no idea they were there. Nobody counted the loss, because nobody knew there was anything to count.

That's the pattern, and once you've seen it you see it everywhere. It doesn't need a villain. It happens because people were never told, and because somewhere a company did the sums and worked out that selling you the cure pays better than selling you the prevention.

So before we make anything, we ask five questions. They aren't about us. They're about you.

1. What problem does this solve?

2. Can it be better than what's already on the shelf?

3. How do we make it safe to use and free from toxic chemicals?

4. How do ensure of its efficacy?

5. How do we bring even more value than what its priced?

"We started reading labels after my father's cancer diagnosis, which is the worst possible time to start. You aren't choosing at that point. You're reacting. Everything we sell is for the person who still has the choice."

We keep a list of ingredients we won't use, because "natural" is a word anyone can print and nobody can check. Most of the leather care industry is happy for you to find mould late. Restoration pays better than prevention, and nobody selling you a rescue kit is going to tell you the real answer is airflow and a habit.

This is what we believe wellness should look like. A house where the ordinary things are safe enough that you can stop thinking about them, and where you made the call early, while it was still cheap and boring. Whether thats your health or your belongings.

So read our labels. Read everyone else's too. Only a small handful of companies hold up when you do, and we're one of them.
